Third generation serviceman and veterans service officer Nicholas Bertucci is the author of Rolling Through Afghanistan – Life as a Combat Medic Enduring PTSD.
Representing the third generation of his family dedicated to military service, Nicholas Bertucci served in the United States Navy 2007 ~ 2015 as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman operating alongside, and caring for, United States Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. On leaving the Navy, Bertucci continued his mission of service as the District 5 and 7 Veterans Service Officer for the Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs. His debut memoir, Rolling Through Afghanistan – Life as a Combat Medic Enduring PTSD, extends that service by offering his personal story, including his experience healing from the trauma of war. Additionally, he is the owner and host of Bertucci’s Country Cabin, a rustic wooded property in northern Arkansas often utilized by veterans as a peaceful getaway.
Nicholas Bertucci comes from a family with a long history of military service. His father served in Vietnam in the Navy, his grandfather in World War II in the Navy, and his great grandfather served in World War I in the Army.
Nicholas’ desire to continue the family tradition of service led him to join the Navy in 2007 and become a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman to operate alongside, and care for, the United States Marines.
Upon completion of his basic training, Bertucci was assigned to the 1st Marine Division Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Pendleton. From there, he deployed with his unit to two different conflicts.
He served in the field as a line corpsman in Iraq in 2008 – 2009. Appointed Senior Line Corpsman of his unit, Bertucci led several corpsman under his command.
Upon completion of specialized Mountain Warfare Medicine training, he deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, leading his corpsmen and caring for his Marines through rigorous combat operations.
Nicholas has completed associate’s, bachelors’, and master’s degrees; two while on active duty and one shortly after separating.
After mustering out of the Navy in 2015, Nicholas remained dedicated to his mission of caring for his fellow service members as the District 5 and 7 Veterans Service Officer for the Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs.
